Many gemstone are treated in some manner to either improve their color, clarity or both. Usually this treatment is permanent and the stone will not require special care.
However, there are some treatments which are not so permanent, and the stone may change in appearance simply by exposing the gem to sunlight or fairly low temperature heat.
Every reputable jeweler or gemologist SHOULD BY LAW inform you if the stone you are purchasing has been subjected to a treatment process, and also advise you if the stone needs special care.
At NEGS we conform to the American Gen Trade Associations treatment disclosure guidelines, and list a treatment code on all of our gemstone sales invoices. For additional information about this topic, please visit the Treatment pages on our website.
